How to Level Up Your Life

How to Level Up Your Life

Recently I have been thinking more and more about the idea of comfort. The word comfort sounds all nice and fuzzy right? Well the harsh reality is: comfort is the worst place to been in…

You aren't making progress. You don't feel a sense of purpose in your life. Comfort, is a consistent state of distraction.

Comfort is also the opposite of growth.

But what is growth? Growth is gradual development and progress towards where you want to be as a person.

It requires a lot of will power to fight these distractions when your trying to learn, grow and improve your self.

Let’s say you have being trying to teach yourself how to use Adobe Illustrator.

But the excitement has faded away, you now find the learning process difficult and boring. This is called: The Dunning-Kruger Effect

I have recently watched a video by Johnny Harris where he revealed how forces him self to learn.

Not realising I have been using this to learn new skills my whole design career.

The secret is… accountability.

This could be a client project you take on for a non-profit or asking your boss you can make a fancy new typeface for the company.

The key thing to remember is: you have to set a goal to do something you are excited about doing (learning Adobe Illustrator), set a deadline and say exactly what you will deliver.

It’s also important to deliver that project to someone you want to impress or admire for example your boss. Then setting a specific timeframe, this forces your to learn something new in a really quick timeframe.

Accountability applies pressure on top of your comfort zone making the learning process a lot quicker and smoother compared to trying to learn a new skill on your own.
